Funny Funny Funny

With Elizabeth Ward, Frans Poelstra, and Krõõt Juurak

  1. April 2022 20:00 Uhr

Tickets ab € 7.- unter www.ateliertheater.wien

Come and witness three performers attempting and failing, attempting and succeeding, or succeeding without even trying to be funny.

Krõõt Juurak, Frans Poelstra and Elizabeth Ward, each in their own unique way, will have a go at Funny Funny Funny. The performance is initially set up like a stand-up comedy showcase, however Elizabeth, Krõõt, and Frans are not comedians and easily stray away from known formats and disciplines. Comedy might turn into a long story, an awkward moment, a happy song, or an abstract dance. The only one thing the three performers agree upon, is not to collaborate. They each work on their material independently and present it to each other as well as to the audience at the moment of the performance.

Therefore there is no way to know what the show will be like.

Elizabeth Ward (born in Detroit in 1977) is a choreographer

and performer currently living in Vienna. Some of the

performance festivals and venues she has shown work at

include the Kitchen (NYC), Danspace Projects (NYC),

Movement Research at the Judson Church (NYC), Disjecta

(Portland), Tanzquartier (Vienna), steirischerherbst (Graz),

Wiener Festwochen (Vienna), ANA (Copenhagen), and

Trinosophes (Detroit). She is not a comedian.

Frans Poelstra (born in Amsterdam in 1954) has worked in the

theater for almost 50 years now. Throughout his career he

worked with really famous people in dance, theater, music,

performance and other arts, but he himself never got famous.

He just didn’t have enough ambition to build a successful

career, and what is a successful career anyway. He is lucky to

be an improviser because then you don’t have to work so hard.

He likes to think of himself that you can make a living and enjoy

your work with as little effort as possible, which is actually hard

work in these neoliberal capitalist times! Frans lives and works

in Vienna since 2004.

Krõõt Juurak (born 1981 in Tallinn) artist, performer and

recently stand-up comedian, studied dance and choreography

at ArteZ Arnhem and Fine Arts at the Sandberg Institute,

Amsterdam. Their work addresses both human and non-human

audiences and is self-sabotaging by nature. Recent exhibitions

and performances include the Baltic Triennial 14: The Endless

Frontier, Vilnius 2021; “You’re So Busy” at Shedhalle, Zürich,

2021, 2022; “Thinking Like an Octopus”at Wilhelm-Hack-

Museum, Ludwigshafen, 2021; “Art for Animals: A Perspective

Change” Opelvillen Stiftung, Rüsselsheim (2020, 2021);

“Cohabitation” Silent Green, Berlin, 2021 i.e. Juurak lives and

works in Vienna.
